Black History Month Storytime

Join author Joshalyn "Rocki" Hickey Johnson for a special storytime featuring her book, "Susie Clark: the Bravest Girl You've Ever Seen," as part of our Black History Month celebration! Learn more about Susie Clark, the first Black person to integrate a public school by court order in the United States. Her case, decided by the Iowa Supreme Court in 1868, gave all Iowans the right to attend public school regardless of race or religion. Susie's case was instrumental to the landmark decision in the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, which made racially segregated schools illegal in the United States in 1954.
